About
The Pyatigorsk Balneological and Mud-Therapy Centre (Пятигорская бальнеогрязелечебница) is a century-old public balneotherapy institution in the historic Kavminvody spa town of Pyatigorsk, set beneath Mount Mashuk (Машук), whose slopes and mineral springs are the source of its healing waters.
Mineral and radon waters
The centre draws on Pyatigorsk's renowned bathing waters: naturally radioactive radon water, warm and cold carbonated narzan, and sulphide (sulphur) mineral waters. Radon baths let active substances penetrate the body and stimulate cellular regeneration through ionisation, and are used as a natural alternative to anti-inflammatory drugs.
Baths and balneotherapy
- Radon immersion baths at concentrations of 40 nKi/l and high-concentration 180 nKi/l (36-37°C), plus dry air-radon baths at 20 nKi/l
- Four- and two-chamber local radon baths for the limbs, contrast baths and wheelchair-accessible baths, typically 15 minutes
- Tambukan mud (peloid) applications, inhalation therapy in one of Russia's largest inhalatoria, and drinking galleries with mineral-water buvets
Reported benefits include improved microcirculation, normalised blood pressure and heart function, sedative and anti-inflammatory effects, enhanced immunity and tissue regeneration.
