About
Terme Felsinee is a thermal bath and cure centre at Via di Vagno 7, on the western edge of Bologna towards Casalecchio di Reno, and one of five centres of the Mare Termale Bolognese group. It opened in 1992 and, by the operator's account, was the first modern establishment to revive the bathing tradition that Bologna had held since Roman times. The name is taken from Felsina, the Etruscan settlement that preceded the city.
Two separate captations recognised by the Italian health ministry supply the building. Alexander is a bicarbonate-sulphate-calcium water drawn at 15.1 degrees Celsius with a dry residue of 600.25 milligrams per litre; it is recognised for drinking cures and balneotherapy in arthro-rheumatic disease and motor rehabilitation, for inhalation treatment of ear, nose and throat conditions, and for diuretic effect. San Luca is a sulphurous-sulphate-calcium water drawn at 16.1 degrees. Both emerge cold and are heated for use. The Alexander captation shares its aquifer with the Alexander 2 well that supplies the group's Terme San Luca - Pluricenter bath across the city.
Bathing is open to anyone without a booking. A day admission covers all activity in the thermal pool area and includes the gym, at 30 euros, with a 22-euro morning slot, a 24-euro afternoon slot and a 15-euro rate for children from age seven; ten-visit cards reduce the price per visit. The published hours are Monday to Friday 08:00 to 21:30 and Saturday 08:00 to 15:30, with bathers required to leave the thermal area and the gym half an hour before closing. A Happy Family session on weekend afternoons is listed as suspended.
The rest of the site is a health facility contracted to the Italian national health service at the highest classification band. It provides sulphur baths for dermatological treatment, balneotherapy, inhalation and respiratory cures including treatment for rhinogenic deafness, a phlebological circuit, hydrokinesitherapy, an accredited outpatient clinic and diagnostic imaging, on a separate morning and afternoon timetable from the bathing hours. A gym, a beauty and aesthetic-medicine department, group classes, an antenatal water course and thermal packages complete the offer.
