About

Forest Lagoon (Skógarböðin) is a geothermal spa nestled in the birch and pine woods of Vaðlaskógur, just a five-minute drive across the fjord from Akureyri in North Iceland. The setting looks out over Eyjafjörður, one of the country's longest fjords, and the mountains that surround it.

Geothermal water & pools

The lagoon comprises two geothermal pools, both kept at a soothing 37°C (98.6°F). The larger pool spans 530 m² and includes three swim-up bars along with indoor access, while a smaller 330 m² pool offers a more tranquil soak.

Sauna & cold plunge

  • A Finnish dry sauna runs at around 80°C with roughly 20% humidity, framing views over Eyjafjörður and the surrounding mountains (swimwear required).
  • An adjacent cold pool sits at 11°C (51.8°F) for contrast therapy.

Dining

Skógur Bistro serves light meals in a wood-clad space with a fireplace, indoor seating and outdoor areas overlooking Akureyri and the forest.
