About

Loutra Pozar is one of Greece's most celebrated thermal-spa destinations, set at the foot of Mount Voras (Kaimaktsalan) in the Municipality of Almopia, about 13 km from Aridaia and 100 km from Thessaloniki in northern Greece. The 72-acre site occupies a dramatic ravine carved through rocky mountains, where the Thermopotamos river flows and forms natural thermal waterfalls amid dense vegetation. Since 2019 it has been an officially certified Thermal Therapy Unit.

Geothermal water & source

The complex is fed by six springs that emerge at an altitude of 360-390 metres. The geyser is created by rainwater that seeps deep into the ground, is heated, and rises back enriched with minerals and beneficial ingredients. The thermal water maintains a constant temperature of 37°C throughout the year.

Waterfalls & natural pools

  • Natural thermal waterfalls run along the Thermopotamos river, where visitors can bathe for both health and recreation.
  • Idyllic cafes are set within the surrounding green nature beside the natural cascades.

Indoor thermal pools & baths

Two indoor hydrotherapy centres operate within the Loutropolis:

  • Alexandreio Hydrotherapy Centre - 11 private thermal pools.
  • Old Hydrotherapy Centre - 2 pools, 2 hammams (Turkish steam baths) and individual bathtubs.

Outdoor thermal pools

  • An Olympic-sized outdoor swimming pool fed by the thermal water.
  • Open-air natural thermal waterfalls and bathing areas along the river.

Spa & wellness

Wellness facilities include hammam (Turkish steam bath) rooms and massage services, alongside the therapeutic bathing for which the water is certified.

Dining & amenities

The grounds include a cafe-restaurant, a market selling local products, and a Folklore and History Museum. The wider natural setting offers hiking and climbing routes, and 15 caves that form Greece's first speleological park, including a 50-metre-deep cavern with Neolithic fossils.

Setting & access

Open 365 days a year, Loutra Pozar combines certified thermal therapy with an alpine river landscape, making it a year-round destination for bathing, wellness and nature.
