Banff Upper Hot Springs

Banff Upper Hot Springs is a naturally heated mineral spring set high on Sulphur Mountain in Banff National Park, a soaking tradition that has drawn visitors since 1886. Its outdoor pool is the highest in Canada, framed by the jagged peaks of Mount Rundle and Cascade Mountain.

The mineral water

The water temperature is kept between 37 and 40 °C (98 and 104 °F). It carries a distinctive mineral profile drawn from the mountain:

• Sulphate — 572 mg/l
• Calcium — 205 mg/l
• Bicarbonate — 134 mg/l
• Magnesium — 42 mg/l
• Sodium — 6.6 mg/l

The historic bathhouse

The bathhouse is a designated federal heritage building. Bathers soak in the open-air mineral pool while taking in sweeping Rocky Mountain views, one of Banff National Park's greatest traditions.

Visiting

Located about 4 km from downtown Banff, the springs are open daily from 10 am to 10 pm, with last entry at 9:30 pm. Entry is first-come, first-served, and a valid Parks Canada national park pass is required in addition to pool admission. The site is operated by Parks Canada.
