Шаргалжуут

Shargaljuut is a natural hot-spring sanatorium (rashaan suvilal) in the valley of the Khangai Mountains in Erdenetsogt soum, Bayankhongor Province, roughly 650 km from Ulaanbaatar. Set high in a remote mountain landscape, the site is one of Mongolia's largest natural-therapy complexes, drawing thousands of guests each year. The springs were, by tradition, discovered and first used for treatment by a Mongolian physician-lama in the 17th century, and the modern sanatorium was established in 1962.

Geothermal spring water

The area holds more than 100 natural hot mineral springs (the resort references 108 named spring types). Water emerges across a wide temperature range, from about 20C to as high as 95C, with a principal spring around 60C. The mineral-rich water is used for drinking cures, steam/inhalation therapy and bathing.

Bathing and treatment

Shargaljuut combines its mineral water with traditional Eastern medicine and European clinical methods.

Accommodation and setting

Guests stay in a multi-storey central lodge with several room classes, an eco complex and traditional ger accommodation, alongside a restaurant, games room and outdoor relaxation areas. The resort sits on the mountain slopes of the Khangai range, a high, remote valley setting well away from urban centres.
