Hot-spring theme park in Hakone pairing swimsuit water-park baths (wine, coffee, sake) with the traditional Mori no Yu onsen.

About

Hakone Kowakien Yunessun is a hot-spring amusement park in the Kowakidani onsen district of Hakone, Kanagawa. It combines the swimsuit-friendly Yunessun spa water park with the traditional nude bathing of Mori no Yu, all fed by natural hot-spring water.

Hot-spring water

The source is a sodium chloride (salt) spring, said to help with neuralgia, muscle and joint pain, poor circulation, fatigue recovery and skin conditions. A gentle 37-39C "warm bath" range is used to relax the body and calm the mind.

Yunessun water park (swimsuit zone)

  • Indoor and outdoor areas across Ocean, River, Mountain and Sky themed zones
  • Outdoor "Great Fall" waterfall bath and a Rock Cave bath with an aquarium
  • Finland outdoor sauna area for families and groups

Novelty baths

  • Wine Bath with a 3.6 m wine-bottle centrepiece, promoted as a beauty/rejuvenation bath
  • Coffee Bath - Japan's first onsen using cold-brew nel-drip coffee
  • Shin Sake Bath - a modern take on a sake bath
  • Dr. Fish foot bath

Family attractions & setting

Family-oriented pools, slides and dining make it a full-day destination. Restaurants on site include a food court and teppanyaki, yakiniku and soba venues, and the adjacent Hakone Hotel Kowakien offers overnight stays amid Hakone's mountain scenery.
