第一滝本館

Dai-ichi Takimotokan is a large, historic hot-spring hotel at Noboribetsu Onsen in Hokkaido, set beside Jigokudani (Hell Valley), the volcanic crater that feeds the resort's abundant thermal waters. The house draws directly on the Noboribetsu springs, and its baths are served as free-flowing natural hot-spring water (gensen kake-nagashi), including private sources.

Multiple hot-spring water types

The resort offers five of the ten officially recognised Japanese spring qualities:

• Sulphur spring — strongly acidic (around pH 2.4), valued for its skin and antimicrobial effects
• Sodium chloride (salt) spring — a warming water that promotes circulation
• Acidic green vitriol (iron alum) spring — containing hydrogen sulphide, said to soften the skin
• Sodium bicarbonate spring — a near-neutral "beauty water"
• Glauber's salt (mirabilite) spring — strongly acidic (around pH 2.2)

The great bath hall

The bathing complex spans roughly 1,500 tsubo (about 5,000 m2) and contains around 35 baths across the men's and women's sections, with indoor baths at varying temperatures, outdoor baths overlooking Hell Valley, saunas, and therapeutic baths (reclining, waterfall and walking baths).

Day-use bathing and hotel

Day-use (higaeri) bathing is available, with reception roughly 09:00–18:00. The property is a full hotel with restaurants and banquet facilities, dog-friendly rooms, and pool facilities, making it a landmark of the Noboribetsu Onsen townscape.
