Stabilimento Curativo Nuove Terme

The Stabilimento Curativo Nuove Terme is the cure department of the Acqui Terme baths, in Piedmont — a prescription spa rather than a leisure bath, working under conventions with the Italian health service.

The water

The venue draws on two main sources: the Bollente, at about 75 °C, and the Lago delle sorgenti, at about 50 °C, with a third called Acqua marcia running cooler. The water comes from a reservoir 2,500 to 3,000 metres down and carries sodium chloride, bromine and iodine, with sulphates and sulphides from gypsum beds; the analysis we hold gives 2,500 mg of dissolved minerals per litre. It is cooled to between 20 and 35 °C for the pools.

Mud

The mud is applied at 48 °C for 15 minutes, followed by a therapeutic bath of 10 minutes and a reaction period of a further 15.

Cures

Balneotherapy runs 20 minutes in a cabin or 30 minutes in the pool. Inhalation takes 10 minutes, with nebulisations up to 30. Gynaecological irrigations last 15 minutes, vascular treatments in the pool 30 minutes, and kinesitherapy 30 minutes.

Visiting and cost

The cure season runs from mid-April to mid-November, with treatments from 08:00 to 12:00 from Monday to Saturday. A ticket is 55.00 EUR, or 3.10 EUR as a prescription fee through the national health service; several cure types are covered by conventions with the SSN, INAIL and INPS.
