Geothermal pool and natural hot spring named after Guðmundur the Good, beside a family-run hotel in Bjarnarfjörður, in the remote Strandir region of the Westfjords.
About
Gvendarlaug hins góða, named after Guðmundur the Good, is a swimming pool and natural hot spring beside Hótel Laugarhóll in Bjarnarfjörður. The valley lies in Strandir, a remote part of Iceland's Westfjords; the hotel places itself halfway between Ísafjörður and Reykjavík.
Farmers from the area built the pool together in the 1940s. Hot spring water flows through it constantly, so it needs little chemical treatment. Next to it are natural hot springs and geothermal hot tubs. No attendant is on duty, and children bathe under their guardians' responsibility.
The hotel is a family-run guest house with a restaurant and takes groups of up to 40.
