Thermes de Balaruc

Thermes de Balaruc-les-Bains is a medical thermal establishment on the Thau lagoon in Hérault, Occitanie. It is a prescription spa rather than a leisure bath: cures are medical acts, ordered by a doctor and often reimbursed, and the site gives 16,000 m² over to treatment.

The water

The water is captured between 120 and 404 metres, and the venue traces it back to the Causses d'Aumelas and the Gardiole massif some 100,000 years ago, rising through faults from below 2,000 metres. It emerges between 37 °C and 49 °C. The analysis names bicarbonates and trace elements alongside chloride, sodium, sulphate, calcium, magnesium and carbonates, and the venue calls it among the hottest and most mineralised waters of Languedoc. It also supplies about 77% of the thermal mud used in treatment, and the establishment runs 25,000 bacteriological analyses a year.

Cures

Two 18-day medicalised courses are the core of the programme: rheumatology, and phlebology, the latter comprising 72 individual treatments. Specific courses address fibromyalgia, chronic pain syndromes and after-effects of cancer treatment. For shorter stays the establishment sells thermal breaks of one to five days. Cures run Monday to Saturday.

Visiting

Pool temperatures run between 37 and 42 °C. According to the venue the water is used for rheumatic and skin conditions. The establishment is at Rue du Mont Saint-Clair 1.
