Äventyrsbadet Mariebad

Mariebad is the municipal bath house of Mariehamn, the capital of the Åland Islands, operated by the city and located at Österleden 68 on the shore of the eastern bay, about 800 metres from the town centre. The building combines a leisure-water section, marketed as an adventure bath, with a full-size sports pool, a separately controllable therapy pool, a small outdoor pool and an adjoining sand beach. The city describes the indoor layout as several different types of basin: a recreation pool with a separate toddler basin and a bubble pool, from which swimmers can continue out to an outdoor pool facing the sea.

The leisure side is built around a single water slide 65.5 metres long, which the operator states suits all ages, and around massage jets and the bubble zone shown on the published floor plan alongside the adventure bath, therapy pool, children's pool and outdoor pool. The operator's brochure states that the water in the adventure bath is always 30 degrees. The sports pool is a separate, cooler environment: 25 metres long with eight lanes two metres wide, a depth of 1.2 to 2 metres, spectator seating for 150 and Omega timing equipment, at a water temperature of 27 °C. The therapy pool has adjustable temperature and water level and can be screened off from the rest of the hall, which makes it the venue for baby swimming and water gymnastics.

Beyond the pools the house has a bookable relax department on the second floor with its own bubble pool, sauna and steam sauna, two changing rooms and a pantry; booking it also includes access to the public pools. Private operators run massage and beauty treatments in the adjoining spa area, and there is a café and restaurant with a large veranda linking the building to the beach. In summer the beach, bathing jetty and beach volleyball courts are in use, and the jetty is also used for winter swimming.

Opening hours run every day, with early-morning swimming on Wednesday and Friday for which tickets must be bought in advance; the ticket desk closes an hour before the building and the pools 30 minutes before closing. The facility is a municipal bath house rather than a commercial water park: it has one slide, and its largest basin is a competition pool. Swedish Wikipedia, used here as a second source, dates the opening of the building to 2004.
