Tulpės sanatorija
Birštonas, Lithuania
Birštonas's oldest sanatorium, offering bromide-chloride mineral-water baths, sapropel mud therapy and hydrotherapy pools by the Nemunas.
About
Tulpės sanatorija is the oldest sanatorium in Birštonas, a mineral-spring resort town set within the loops of the Nemunas river. Founded in 1927 and today run as a public health institution (VšĮ), it carries nearly a century of tradition in mineral-water and therapeutic-mud treatment across a green complex of several buildings surrounded by century-old trees.
Mineral water & mud
Treatments draw on the sanatorium's own borehole, the highly mineralized (32–35 g/l) bromide-chloride Vaidilutė mineral water, alongside the resort's Vytautas water. Therapeutic mud uses sapropel, a lake-bottom organic mud regarded as more biologically active than the peat used elsewhere; it is mixed with mineral water and applied in baths and body treatments.
Baths & treatments
- Mineral-water baths and pearl/whirlpool baths
- Sapropel mud baths and mud applications
- Underwater massage in the mineral-water pool
- Massage, kinesitherapy, physiotherapy and inhalations

Pools & sauna
The modern water-therapy complex features heated and cold mineral-water pools, including a mineral pool (roughly 30–32 °C, ~20% mineral-water concentration) with six underwater massage jets, a cascade and a Turkish steam bath, plus a sauna zone.
Setting & stay
Guests can stay on site, including in the historic "Baltoji vila" (White Villa), with an on-site restaurant, in the quiet, forested setting of central Birštonas on the right bank of the Nemunas.
