Historic Adriatic thalasso-medical spa in Igalo using Igalo therapeutic sea-mud and Igaljka mineral water for rehabilitation and wellness.
About
The Institute for Physical Medicine, Rehabilitation and Rheumatology "Dr Simo Milošević" JSC Igalo, founded in 1949, is one of the largest and most renowned multidisciplinary spa and thalassotherapy institutions in the Balkans. It sits on the Adriatic shoreline at the entrance to the Bay of Kotor (Boka Kotorska) in Igalo, part of the Herceg Novi municipality, and operates as a combined hotel and medical rehabilitation resort serving around 19,000 users a year from some 50 countries.
Natural healing factors
- Igalo therapeutic sea-mud ("Igaljsko blato"): A natural peloid whose therapeutic effect is documented across a large number of patients; the abundance of this healing mud made Igalo one of the largest peloid health resorts in Europe.
- "Igaljka" mineral water: A local mineral water used as a key factor in treatment and rehabilitation, including in medicinal baths.
- Thalassotherapy: Treatment using the natural factors of the sea and shoreline – the Mediterranean climate, seawater, sun radiation, aerosols, sea peloids, sand and seaweed – for respiratory, rheumatic and skin conditions.
Pools, baths & hydrotherapy
- Heated mineral-water pools kept at 33–34°C for hydrokinesitherapy (therapeutic exercise, swimming and walking).
- Underwater douche-massage in "Igaljka" mineral-water baths heated to 36–38°C.
- Pearl baths (warm mineral baths with air-bubble micro-massage) at 36–37°C, plus salty baths, CO2 baths and aromatherapy baths with essential oils from locally grown herbs.
- A large sports-recreation swimming pool measuring 33×25 metres.
Medical rehabilitation & wellness
- Physical medicine and rehabilitation across rheumatological, cardiac, respiratory, neurologic and orthopedic/sport-injury programs, with roughly 70 therapy modalities including kinesiotherapy, hydrotherapy, balneotherapy, manual massage, electrotherapy and sonotherapy, delivered by about 300 medical staff.
- Prevention programs (anti-stress, osteoporosis, metabolic syndrome, slimming) and a dedicated Beauty Center offering massage, facials, manicure, pedicure and skin-recovery treatments.
- A sports-recreation center with a sauna, fitness/gym, table tennis, plus a dentist and hairdresser on site.
Hotel & dining
- Two building complexes (Phase I and Phase II) about 250 m apart near the shoreline, together offering around 1,450 beds; Phase II rooms have balconies and mostly sea views, with air-conditioning, TV, telephone and refrigerator.
- Buffet restaurants (breakfast with over 80 items), an à-la-carte National Restaurant with national, Mediterranean and vegetarian dishes, doctor-prescribed special diets, and "Panorama" and "Boka" aperitif bars with evening entertainment.
- Congress and event facilities for conferences, team-building and weddings.
Family & rehabilitation for children
The Institute runs dedicated children's rehabilitation programs alongside its adult medical services.
